A patio built to stay level
Patios usually fail from the bottom up. A thin base, no proper compaction, or slabs laid on dabs of mortar that let water sit underneath. The result is rocking slabs, puddles and cracked joints within a couple of winters. We dig out properly, lay and compact a solid sub base, and bed every slab on a full bed so your patio stays level and solid for years.
Because RS Kayley Ltd are bricklayers first, we can also build everything that goes with a patio: brick steps up from the house, retaining walls where the garden slopes, raised beds, seating walls and planters. One team, one point of contact, and a finish that ties together.
Patio materials
- Porcelain: modern, very hard wearing and easy to keep clean
- Indian sandstone: natural colour variation and a traditional look
- Limestone and slate: a smart, contemporary finish
- Block and brick paving: for paths, edging and borders
How we lay a patio
- Set out the area with you and agree levels, falls and step positions
- Dig out and remove the spoil, then lay and compact the sub base
- Build any steps, walls or raised beds
- Lay the slabs on a full mortar bed, primed where the material needs it
- Point the joints, clean down and take all waste away
Drainage and levels
Every patio needs a fall so water runs away from the house and off the surface. The finished level also needs to sit below the damp proof course of your house, which is something a lot of rushed patios get wrong. We check this before we start.
Want the front of the house done too? Take a look at our driveways, or add a new garden wall to finish the garden.
